Making History...One Degree at a Time

WHEN: July 23-25, 2010 WHERE: Norfolk, VA The results are in! The weekend has come, records have gone. This past weekend was the hottest on record in Norfolk, VA, with both Saturday and Sunday topping out at 105°. Both days tied the all-time record of 105° set back on April 7, 1918. On Friday it was 100°, making it only the third year on record with 3 consecutive days over 100° here in Norfolk. On Friday, the "coolest" day, the heat index was 91° at 8am and 99° by 9am. On Saturday, the hottest day, the heat index reached 123° in nearby Suffolk, VA and was 117° in Norfolk! The low temperature on all three days was 79/80, which provided no relief at any time of the day. This morning, our power went out from 5:45-8:30am, and although this is the coolest time of the day we began to feel the heat immediately with no fans or A/C going. Tonight, after Stacie's family got in to town from Iowa, some of us ventured out to the Tim McGraw concert at 8:30 and braved the heat & humidity. Thankfully, the weak but refreshing cold front began pushing through tonight and helped to cool down the air. I say "cool front" but the highs are still supposed to be in the low 90's all week, which honestly, feels GREAT - sweatshirt weather around here these days.

The heat index (117°) on Saturday in Norfolk at 4:25pm High temperatures on Saturday Low temperatures on Sunday. The low temperature has been at or above 75° , 15 of the last 17 days here. Heat indices at 2:45 today.
