WHEN: Late-May, 2010
WHERE: Mid-Atlantic
While the calendar still says it's spring, most of the country is experiencing summer-like weather. From Duluth to Dallas, Miami to Maine, the oven has been turned on - high. That is, except for the mid-Atlantic. Nope, we here are still stuck in spring and you know I am no fan of being left out of summer! I do follow weather closely but mostly just extremes and temperatures. I don't follow, understand, or even really care about the physics or dynamics of weather patterns, so don't ask me what has set up along the East Coast's mid-section. All I know is we are smack-dab in the middle of a bubble the heat has forgotten. And this hasn't just occurred today. For the past week, the upper Midwest and Great Plains have been basking in unseasonable warmth while the mid-Atlantic shivers in average conditions (author's exaggeration). And this pattern will last at least through the next few days.

Today's forecast highs for the upper Midwest.

Today's forecast highs for the mid-Atlantic.

Heat indices at 3:15 EDT today.
Even Maine has been afforded heat-index-inducing conditions, while 500 miles to the south we questioned the thermometer even breaking 80° today (it didn't, and hasn't since May 15 in Norfolk). Now I know some of you experiencing this wave of warmth have not welcomed it with open arms and actually wish you could trade places with the states in the frozen tundra of the mid-Atlantic. And of all the things to complain about, temperature should not be on someone's list, especially when temperature (hot or cold) is a real threat to some peoples throughout the world. I'm really not complaining and like I said, I like extremes, so whether I am experiencing them or not I am always interested in them. Plus, I have to write about random stuff like regional weather patterns or else I wouldn't have a blog and then you (myself included) wouldn't have an alternative to TV for finding a place to waste your time. :)

Drastic difference between the first and second half of May in Minneapolis

My, how the tables have turned!

High temps for May 24. Oh, look where the highest number is on here!
